During a Digital Families workshop at the Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy, parents and their designed their own 3D robots using AutoPlay (now ThingMaker). These robots were then printed out using a 3D printer. The software is created by professional Computer Aided Design company AutoCad. It is a great early introduction into 3D modelling and develops transferable skills for advanced interaction with tablet computers.
These 3D robots were then printed out, cementing the virtual and physical production of things. Families were shown how innovative 3D printers work and we discussed how it might change the way we think about buying new things.
